More than 1,100 children in Syria's Ghouta suffer from malnutrition

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has warned that more than 1,100 children in war-torn Syria's Eastern Ghouta district, on the outskirts of the Syrian capital Damascus, are suffering from various forms of malnutrition. UNICEF’s Spokeswoman Monica Awad said on Monday that, based on a three-month survey, 1,114 Syrian children in total were found to be suffering from malnutrition in the district, which is held by the foreign-backed militants. She added that of these children, 232 were afflicted by the most hazardous form of malnutrition, known as “sever acute malnutrition,” a level of undernourishment that needs urgent treatment if the child is to survive, and 882 others suffered from moderate acute malnutrition. Awad also warned that more than 1,500 other children were still at risk, adding, “ During the past month, there have been two reported deaths among infants, one girl aged 34 days and a boy aged 45 days, due to insufficient breastfeedin

Daesh executes 128 civilians for cooperating with Syrian government

A human rights group has claimed that Daesh executed at least 128 Syrian civilians in the town of Al-Qaryatayn, which has been traded between the militant group and the Syrian Arab Army multiple times. The civilians were massacred in reprisal for collaborating with the government of Bashar al-Assad. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the killings occurred over a 20 day period. The Syrian army retook the city in April 2016 after eight months of Daesh occupation. However, Daesh chased the government forces out on October 1 — but the Syrian army regrouped and returned three weeks later, recapturing the city once more with support from Russian airstrikes. But in that three-week period, Daesh executed 128 residents of the town, which had a population of about 18,000 before the civil war started. The Palmyra Coordination Committee, a local group that supports protest and resistance against the Syrian government, reported that

Clinton, Assange and the war on truth

Australia’s public broadcasting network gave Hillary Clinton an open mike to defame WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange as “a tool of Russian intelligence” without giving him a chance to respond. by John Pilger Part 2 - Smear and Omission The ABC Australia interview with Clinton is an outstanding example of smear and censorship by omission. I would say it is a model. “ No one, ” the interviewer, Sarah Ferguson, says to Clinton, “ could fail to be moved by the pain on your face at that moment [of the inauguration of Trump] … Do you remember how visceral it was for you? ” Having established Clinton’s visceral suffering, Ferguson asks about “Russia’s role.” CLINTON: I think Russia affected the perceptions and views of millions of voters, we now know. I think that their intention coming from the very top with Putin was to hurt me and to help Trump. FERGUSON: How much of that was a personal vendetta by Vladimir Putin against you? CLINTON: … I mean he wants to

Italy's 2 richest regions vote for greater autonomy from Rome

Veneto and Lombardy, the two wealthiest regions of Italy, have overwhelmingly voted in favor of greater autonomy from the central government in Rome, Reuters reported, citing early results of the two referendums.    Over 90 percent of voters are estimated to have cast their ballot in favor of autonomy in both regions. Due to alleged hacker attacks on polling stations, the final counting of results is expected to take additional time. Although legally non-binding, the referendums could give the two regions, governed by the Eurosceptic, anti-immigrant and right-wing Northern League, more leverage in negotiations with Rome. https://www.rt.com/newsline/407476-italy-veneto-lombardy-autonomy-referendum/
